For the second half of the year we have a major project to complete. This project includes 2 prototype web designs for a theme of our choice and then document the process from ideating the theme to adding the final touches, all this will be placed in an A3 portfolio. The project will prodominately be through Adobe XD, using illustrator and lightroom for things like logo creation and image editing.
Fortunately I've had experience with XD already as I do another graphic design minor along side the major VCD luckily I have a headstart in using the interface and know my way around the software. This meant some of the studio practice were a little repetitive where instead of repeating the same the practices I would refer to my previous inclass practices from my graphic design minor.
The Task was outlined as the following:
DEFINE the focus of your project.
RESEARCH gather and collate - competitive set & mood board
DEVELOP a rationale4.
IDEATE - Create sketches & draft ideas
SELECT from best concepts
PROTOTYPE then REFINE concepts
TEST and DEVELOP system
INTEGRATE and REFINE
ORGANISE and DELIVER
The first step was to choose a theme. We were given a list to choose a broad theme then brainstorming we were to narrow it down. Immediately festival stood out to me as I could immediately envision graphics potentially representing the night sky/lights etc. from there I drew upon my personal heritage to do a latin fusion festival. To my surprise this idea didn't really exist, as South American countries are similar they are also very different where the current existing festivals were exclusive to regions of latin culture.
With the idea in mind that I wanted to create a Fusion of latin cultures I started brainstorming what that may include and the potential design elements.
Using pinterest I was able to be inspired by web designs, posters, logos, colour schemes etc. I loved the logos that looked hand drawn as it added a element of authenticity, so for next week I'll plan to have tracing paper and a new dot pad to get the best versions of the logos. For the site we also had to create a sitemap for what we think the navigation will be for the site. I wanted minimal levels to my site, simple and plain with a focus on interactive thus only have minimal levels. It may need some refinement to achieve the right usability.
We had to create a site rationale which I wasnt to fond of what I wrote, it was rushed and not knowledgable for what should actually be in a rationale. Before completing the A3 portfolio I will refine it and outsource tips on what to include when writing a rationale.
Lastly with all this I put together a moodboard to set my intial ideas down, for potential colour schemes and web design ideas.
