Looking not seeing
"This project explores the ways in which we ‘look out’ into the world but often do not ‘see’, without being deliberate about what we are observing." This task required me to see a whole new light onto the hidden elements within the environment.
This was an extremely difficult task, as I struggled with seeing these elements in my surroundings without consciously thinking about it. Most images were taken on either my phone or DSLR camera which surprisingly didn't alter the end quality.
Exploring my surroundings for clear legible letters was also quite difficult as editing could only do so much in regards to making what I saw in reality pop digitally. Knowing I wanted all letters to match whether uppercase or lowercase on the proof sheet however at this point I have not decided thus, I remained taking photos of all letterforms I found. Focusing on finding the images was tough but once found editing was quite a bliss process.
Once in the editing stage I played around with threshold levels, saturation, hue and gradients. Keeping the consistency factor I choose gradients for the colour proof sheet as I appreciated the consistency and the link to the future colour plans of the poster.
Continuing with the task, is choosing a style of poster based on the letterforms I've collected. It will depend on what would most suit the genre and the design ideas around linking the types visual significance in the letters.
